About Altars and Re-evolutions
2025
This installation, which brings together video, objects, and ritual gestures, emerges from the dialogue and relationships I found between Black spiritual beliefs, the living archives (oral tradition) encountered here, and the colonial traces/wounds that persist and grow stronger in the monuments and spaces of Paris.
More than an installation, it is an altar that allegorizes syncretism, where traditional and contemporary religious elements intertwine to reflect what I call te(ch)nologies of liberation: secret strategies that Black people have historically woven to survive, heal, and transform oppression into spiritual power.
This altar does not adhere to any specific creed; it is rather a portal where different Afro-diasporic beliefs intertwine to open the way for the invocation of bodies and spirits—past, present, and future.
